I am a 24 year old singer/songwriter/guitarist from Cairo, Ga. I have been performing since I was 3, writing songs since I was 12 and playing guitar since I was 14. I love what I do. I sing, play, listen to and write all genres of music. I am first and foremost a songwriter. My dream is to write songs for the greats, but if it happened that someone liked the whole package, I definitely wouldn't turn it down. I just want to stay true to who I am and what I am about, play, write and sing music and have fun doing it.
Why this name?
I was born Heather Maxwell, which is the name I started out using, but I got married in the spring of 2006 and people loved my new last name so I decided to change my stage name to Heather Ireland.
Do you play live?
I definitely play live. I have many places that I play at, but one of my favorites is Spring Creek Park Resort in Donalsonville, Ga. It is absolutely beautiful over there and the people are amazing! It's an oyster bar overlooking beautiful Lake Seminole and they throw crazy parties. I love everything about what I do. I even enjoy setting up the equipment. I know It's crazy, but it's true. I am currently working on an album of original songs, so I am in the studio a lot these days. I love that part of it too. Many special moments, too many in fact too list. Everytime I get on that stage is special to me, but the most memorable is the first time I sat down and played just the guitar and sang an original song. The reaction from the crowd was overwhelming. I didn't realize the impact my songs, which are basically life experiences and very personal, could have that kind of effect. It's a freeling that I never grow tired of.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is a wonderful tool to me. It gives you a way to touch many different people all across the world without ever leaving your house. It's great for musicians and people trying to get their name out there for the world to know. It helps to build a fan base and I'm thankful for what it has done and is doing for me.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Definitely, if the deal was right for me.
Band History:
I've been performing for many years. I've been in many contests and showcases in which I have always placed. I've done benefits and sang for various clubs and groups. I have made a trip to Nashville after catching the eye of Tony Mantor, owner and operator of a small indie label by the name of Plateau Music. I am currently working on recording an album of my originals with him.
Your influences?
Patsy Cline was a huge influence. I grew up listening to her, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Johnny Cash and all the other great classics. I love my country music, old and new, but I listen to a little bit of everything. I am from the south so southern rock is a huge part of my sound/influence. I love performing with a full band for the purposes of allowing people to dance, but I love acoustic stuff even more. It's more intimate, honest and really gives you the chance to strip it all down to see who you really are and how you come across to people as an artist. I want to people to believe and feel what I'm singing about.
Favorite spot?
Wow! I guess I will have to say Spring Creek Park Resort as of right now. I just enjoy the people.
Equipment used:
I have a Yamaha P.A. System with two big stereo speakers. I sing with a SM 58 mic. I have a Castilla, an Austin and an Ibanez acoustic guitars.
Anything else...?
