Well, I am a folk-punk singer songwriter from the West Coast of Scotland. I used to play in punk-rock bands, but now am just kinda going it alone. I write all my own material, which I beleive are pretty good!
Why this name?
Tis my own name, I used to go by the name of The Alarmist, but now its regular old Dave Hughes.
Do you play live?
I love playing live now. When I started doing this on my own, I used to get nerves like no one else. But now, I love it. And I will play anywhere that will have me as well, pubs, clubs, houseparties, BBQ's what ever!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it changes it for the better. It has knocked down a lot of the barriers between the local band scene's and the industry. I have booked the majority (and been booked) by promoters who use the Internet as a tool. Its easy now for them to hear from an act, listen to them online and get back to them. Speed has been upped majorly!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only if the terms were right, and that was that I retained all rights to my music. Might sound like a dream, but many artists have managed it, for example Bruce Springsteen, all his CD's have (c) Bruce Springsteen all rights reserved, rather than a publishing house or distro.

Until then I'm happy to play my songs, release them on the internet, and who knows, maybe one day I'll hear from a guy somewhere who's also playing my songs.
Band History:
I played in a punk rock band for about 5 years, but we split around 3 years ago now. For two years I was writing songs, playing them in my flat and stuff. My friend who works in a bar asked me if I wanted to play on a saturday night. I told him that I didn't have a band, and he said "yeah, I know". So I got up and did my solo thing, which was a bit of a train wreck. Now, however, I've learnt what not to do!
Your influences?
Punk, Folk, Rock, Bruce Springsteen, Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan, Frank Turner, The Buzzcocks, The Jam, The Clash,Green Day, Rancid, Willy Mason, Mr T Experience, The Influents.
Favorite spot?
Glasgow has to be my favourite city.

Although to play live its either going to be The Steamie in Greenock, The Crow in Paisley of the Union in Dundee. I've had amazing shows there and always look forward to playing there.
Equipment used:
I use a cheap acoustic guitar, with a external pickup. And an arrangement of cheap harmonica's.
