I am a singer/songwriter recently left LA and moved to the San Francisco bay area. I grew up in Denver and always aspired to be a singer/songwriter. I am currently working on my 2nd album.

Why this name?
Janeen Leah is my first and middle name.
Do you play live?
I've played all throughout the LA music scene for about 4 years. Now I'm focusing on recording my second album and plan to gig the bay area and return to LA for some shows as well once it's released.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it helps independent artists/bands such as myself to reach a wider audience. It also helps with finding contacts. I think it's wonderful.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, definitely, if the label shares my vision. I'm not a puppet that will be molded to what ever is "hot" at the moment.
Band History:
Singer/songwriter Janeen Leah grew up in Denver listening to Sarah McLachlan, Cocteau Twins, Jeff Buckley, Depeche Mode, Jellyfish, Led Zepplin, The Sundays, Harry Connick Jr. and Heart. Along with her love of these contemporary and diverse artists/bands, Janeen also has a love for Jazz greats such as Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.

Janeen began writing songs and teaching herself to play the guitar at the early age of 14 and began performing her music at local coffee shops at age 15. Her own unique musical style combines dynamic vocals, sophisticated musical structure and meaningful lyrics. Fans have commented that Janeen's energetic and engaging performances draw the audience in to her sonic realm. Says one fan, "Janeen uses sound the way painters use colors - its like her music exists in its own world, and when you hear it, you want to be in that world." Another Janeen Leah enthusiast said, "I think anyone can relate to her songs. They have a great pop appeal, yet they are sophisticated enough to challenge your ear, kind of like Sting. I can definitely see her appealing to a massive audience."

During high school she trained with Susan Draus (producer, composer/arranger Vices, New York City), who helped Janeen develop her talents and encouraged her to pursue her dream of a career in music. At the age of 18, she left Denver on her own with her guitar in tow and headed to Hollywood and enrolled in Musicians Institute. There she recorded her debut EP “Melting in Hazel”’ with up-and-coming engineer Jeremy Oswin, (whose credits include work on the soundtracks for Titanic and The Grinch) and accomplished producer Tommy Reeves.

On November 1, 2005, Janeen released her first full-length album, “Time is Never Wasted.” The album is a comprehensive work that deftly melds rock music with jazz and reflects Janeen’s varied musical tastes and experiences. It was recorded, mixed and mastered by noted artist, engineer and saxophonist Keven Brennan, whose credits include engineer work with Lisa Loeb, Andy Georges (Jewel), Shane Endsley (Kneebody, Ani DiFranco).

“Time is Never Wasted” has received rave reviews from critics and fans alike. Jere Fritsche of ShipWreckIslandStudios.com says, “Janeen’s debut…an album that will make you appreciate what good music is truly about.” Morley Seaver of NowOnTour.com says, “Janeen’s style is similar to other current singer/songwriters such as Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones or Sheryl Crow. For my money, she puts them all in the shadows.” Morley Seaver also picked ‘Time is Never Wasted’ as the best album of 2005 at AntiMusic.com. “Time is Never Wasted” is available now at shows and online through CD Baby.com and Tower Records.com.

Janeen is an experienced professional singer, both in live and studio settings. Her credits include: live back-up vocals for recording artists PJ (Tidal Wave Records) and Kriya (Invengo Records); studio back-ground vocals for up-and-coming hip-hop group Numbs (Guapo Records); writing and recording collaboration with Tushar Parte in India (Mythological Wine Music, Bollywood) to create the single 'Wine of Consciousness'. Janeen has also worked with New Zealand producer Peter Kearns on tracks that are featured on her debut album.

Janeen continues to write constantly. She has an extensive catalog of material, and with inspiration flowing daily, that catalog is always growing.

Janeen has recently signed with indie label f. Boo!. She is currently in the studio recording her second album. Whether with a full band, high energy setting or an intimate, acoustic setting; Janeen's fans are equally captivated.
