Pappy5 hails out of Chicago by way of Los Angeles. He has performed with many artist from the Chi-Lites to the Rap artist KEG. A bass guitarist by trade. Pappy5 also goes by the name Boomer and is formerly a member of the Platinum Band from Chicago. Pappy5 is truly a representative of his musical roots in soul, funk, and smooth r&b. After being a backup musician for more than 20 years he decided to release a new album. Please enjoy.
Why this name?
I chose the name Pappy5 because I am a grandparent of seven grandchildren and at the time I chose my name I had five grandchildren.
Do you play live?
I am in the process of building a new band. I am looking for serious, creative musicians age ranges from 18 to 80. You see I believe musuc is the on occupation that has no age limit.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The Internet has been a very useful avenue for many of us indy musicians and producers to introduce ourselves to the worlds music market. It has also been a place for a lot of piracy to occur. Luckily not everyone is a crook.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
But of course if the price is right and the creative harnesses are not in place (if you know what I mean). I always tell musicians that the problem with the music industry is that the people making the decisions are good but everyone has an audience.
Band History:
I started playing in 1972 in a band at Hyde Park High school. I had been playing for six months when I did my first professional gig. I joined the musicians union and went to Europe in 1977 with the Chi-lLites. I played with many artist out of Chicago. Artist like The Pepsters, The Enchanters, Syl Johnson, Johnny Taylor, Garland Green, Jimmy Johnson, Buddy Scott, The Scott Brothers and a host of others.
Your influences?
EVeryone from Ray Charles to 50 Cents. I really love the group Mint Condition. Many artist have influenced me but I am more into the producers because they are normally who create the sound of the artist. In some cases the artist can be the producer as well. Artist like the Isley Brothers, Prince, Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam, Frankie Beverly and Maze and many others.
Favorite spot?
London England. I love the audiences in England. Don't get me wrong I love my American audiences but America is home and they seem to get use to the artist because they see them so much but the Brits don't see American acts as much and so the bands always seem so new and fresh to them.
Equipment used:
Fostex, Behringer, Ibanez, Carvin Fender, Roland, Alesis, Kawai, Yamaha, Digitech, Furman, Dell, Cubase, Sony Acid, ProTools, Digital Orchestrator, Magix Music Studio, DBX, DOD, and a host of other brands.
Anything else...?
I would love to establish myself as the newest oldest popular artist out there. I have many followers old and young. Just give a listen and let me know what you think. If you would like to buy the album please leave me you information and I will keep you posted on the completion date.
