The Seven - Kevin A. Smith (guitar, bass, keys, drums)
Why this name?
I believe that numbers mean things... seven the the biblical completion number.
Do you play live?
occasionally with side gigs... The Seven hasn't become an official band quite yet.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
open access baby... thats what its all about.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
record contracts are a strange breed... I once read that if you were to place a standard record contract into ANY other business situation, just changing the names, then no lawyer would advise signing. But, that said, I'd give a listen to any reasonable offer.
Band History:
The Seven is the personal musical vision of Kevin A. Smith... a progressive, open-format, mostly instrumental musical landscape. A project that recognizes music is inherently spititual and is a gift from Someone much greater.
The Seven has released (in a very limited form) four albums of original material. "Sounds" (1990), "Signs" (1994), "Sphere of Influence" (1996), and "Meaning Of Is..." (2000). After retreating into seclusion to build his studio business and study the craft of music production, Smith commenced cooking up songs for The Seven's first fully professional release, tentatively titled "Unsatisfied", for release in 2007.
This project is based out of Kevin A. Smith's recording studio, Six+1 Studios 1933 Second Loop Rd Florence SC 29501, and is always open to collaboration with like minded visionaries.
Your influences?
everything from J.S. Bach to Steely Dan. My music would probably get stuck in the Shawn Lane, Joe Satch, Dream Theater pigeon hole. It's like this... I LOVE THE GUITAR and I love people who can play their instruments really well.
Favorite spot?
Chaco Canyon, New Mexico
Equipment used:
I am currently loving my modified Line 6 Variax guitar through a POD XT Live. But the heart of my fingers will always belong to my early 80s Fender Squier strat w/ EMGs and a ton of soul!
