We perform original compositions as well as modern interpretations of jazz classics. Influences include R&B, Funk, Smooth, New Age, Jazz and Pop.
Jazz is more encompassing than one era; dixie to swing to be-bop to post-modern to avant-garde to funk to pop and smooth jazz; IT'S ALL JAZZ MUSIC TO ME! and the sounds from funk, 70's/80's fusion and even smooth jazz is cool...Jazz is what it is; improvising music whether over rhythm changes or a hip-hop dance loop...acid, bop....we like and play it all!

Why this name?
I suppose putting "band" after the piano player's name wasn't diffucult to think of. We could add the cliché "and Friends" but it would be overused wouldn't it? And the fact that the leader happens to be me, that was an easy one.
Do you play live?
We play concerts, festivals, private events, corporate parties and jazz clubs in and around the Portland, Oregon area. We love playing live to appreciative audiences...No special moments to recall...except to note that being on the Soundclick Internet Jazz Charts is quite surprising! :-)
If you make it big..?
We can pay off our bills and send our kids to college! Also, just being able to afford the necessities in life (the latest newest, gotta-have-it-digital-whatchamacallit for the studio, a new boat, new Scuba Diving Gear, a Movado watch, a second Steiway grand, house in the mountains, larger house with a nice backyard for gardening and for kids to play in, new wheel barrow and of course, a weed wacker for the new garden!). :-)
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has enabled ANYONE that writes and records music, the ability to reach an audience instantly. It gives musicians/composers a way of bypassing the accepted norm of delivering music content to listeners and has allowed independent artists the chance at making money at this art form/music business. It's a fair level playing field for all and I'm totally behind the MP3 wave!!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Well, probably...er, ummm...I don't know....depends on the contract...better call my attorney first! hehehe

Your influences?
I like all kinds of music! Cinematic, thematic, tv/film themes, and jazz suites! I have enjoyed and been inspired by the music of so many great artists. I've studied artists from diverse backgrounds, such as:
Dave Gruisin, David Benoit, Joe Sample, Tom Grant, Oscar Peterson, Chick Corea, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Art Tatum, Bennie Green, Kim Pensyl, and Jim Brickman. Actually there's more, but that's enough for now.
