Introspective (deep) and shallow, dark and light, hip hop but against the grain of the mainstream. Unique, conceptual, coming from all angles, my own angle, and no angle at all. Permeated by spiritual thought, never to exclude anything. Ark can rap about anything, and be real as it gets with it. This ain't about your going out being gangsta, f***ing bi***es, getting high, worshipping that damned dark lord, trying to be the god of hip hop - this is about me, my ideas, my beliefs, the sh*** I've been through, and the sh*** I see the world in. Ark is all things, and no thing at all, all way and none, and it's in the rap.
Why this name?
Name change from the original, Fynal Cypher, during a deployment to the Indian Ocean when I was in the US Air Force. I wanted something with a deep meaning to it, and my boys helped me come up with it.
Do you play live?
I've performed live a few times.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet makes the music of underground artists, and artists in general, more accessible. Back in the day, underground artists especially had a harder time getting out to a broad audience, hence the reason most didn't make it in the game. Today, it's much easier, and it's even possible to "blow up overnight".
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would, if the terms were my terms. I can't have the man taking all the credit for my hard work. Yeah, if the front money, it's right to expect to make a gain out of your investment, but that gain shouldn't include most of the money. Yeah, if the terms were right, I'd sign in a heartbeat.
Band History:
History still in the making.
Your influences?
Common (Sense), Nas, Canibus, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Pharaoh Monche, Royce da 5'9", and some others.
Equipment used:
My computer, a cheap mic, and some software.
Anything else...?
Watch out, kids - this is a Hostile Takeover.
