Lobelia Sound began as Lobelia Sound Dimension a group of Sunderland based musicians, general liggers and hangers on. Tom Reeves guitarist and singer a casualty of the legendary Happy Bars a psychedelic garage band of some repute was at the centre of the LSD mael'strom. The original lineup consisted of Tom, Fred Fenwick and Ian Heppburn. The band collapsed following yet another marathon Lobelia smoking, acid dropping session, Fred and Hep fled south.
The longest surviving lineup consisted of Tom (guitar & Vocals) Johnny Stormont (Bass) and Lee Clark (Drums) they toured far and wide managing to garner favourable press many fans and even cut a single "Look Hear". Listen to "Cardboard City" and you'll get the message.
Tom remains at the centre of the renamed Lobelia Sound although musicians of dubious character come and go adding to the collective melodic noise of Lobelia Sound.
Why this name?
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Someone said you could smoke Lobelia plants. Why not?
Do you play live?
We're hoping to play a number of gigs in 2007 now we have so many new songs to road test. The line up is being completed as we speak.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has hopefully allowed all musicians a chance to be heard and cut the monopoly of the major labels. Mind you you still can't beat a seven inch single.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No, unless we were left to do our own thing which the fat corporate MF's just aren't able to do.
