Disco and 70's New Wave isn't dead, and Alec Ridgeway is continuing to make that evident with his classic blend of Disco, New Wave, Classical, and Electronic music. Born in Kentucky and raised in West Virginia, Alec Ridgeway began playing the keyboard at a young age, and showed an early in-depth knowledge of electronics and computers. Using this to his advantage, he began producing music through various projects before eventually settling upon his trademark neo-disco project. At twenty years of age, Alec Ridgeway has already turned heads in the music business by doing what he loves doing best: Making music that sounds good.
Why this name?
It's my name, don't wear it out.
Do you play live?
No, I haven't played live yet.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It allows the ability to distribute not only music, but art entirely, whether free or otherwise, in a massive, international manner. Many bands, modern bands that is, are in debt to the internet for the most part. With the internet, they can make websites, get on sites like Myspace, etc. Without people distributing this art all over the internet, this art would simply become a manufactured entity, produced and sold as cheap products for mass consumption, easily digestable sounds and visuals for the sole purpose of lining the pockets of the wealthy who own the record labels.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Certainly, if they didn't financially rape me by taking a huge cut out of my profits.
Your influences?
Everything, pretty much. :)
Favorite spot?
Charleston, no doubt. Although Miami is a beautiful city. I've been all over the country, but Charleston is the place for me.
Equipment used:
The usual. Various keyboards, a piano, bass guitar, mic, and my computer.
