"Based on my DPRP profile and listening preferences Stephen felt that his second release, Playing With Time might well appeal to me. However what raised the ante for Playing With Time is hinted at in the album title. Unlike many rock based guitar albums where the emphasis rests purely with the virtuosity of the guitar playing, Stephen has incorporated his progressive/fusion influences to offer a varied accompaniment to his primary instrument. Best illustrated by the longest track on the album, Con-Fusion, which emerges nicely from Questions, a solo piano interlude. I have absolutely no problem recommending that you check out Sifu Stephen Doe and in particular this album. I loved the guitar tone, the fact that Playing With Time wasn't just a display of guitar histrionics, but rather a careful mixture of well constructed melodic compositions with "in context" guitar playing." says BOB MULVEY from DPRP.

Sifu Stephen Doe is described as a “Genius by Virtuosity” in the February/March edition of Guitar Nine Records magazine.

“His electrifying techniques used in his tempos and transitional key changes make these energetic pieces a clever gift for the trained ear”, says a fan.

Why this name?
I took Martial Arts with Sifu Chow Ma Nee in Springfield Ma at the age of 5(at the same time I started playing guitar). … I was Certified at the age of 20 in Hong Kong, China in 28 of these styles of martial arts. I feel that the philosophies have influenced my style of music greatly. All my life they have gone hand and hand together and brought me to where I am today to an ever evolving style of self expression.

Playing With Time out now!

Do you play live?
The New York International Music Festival officially selected him to represent the state of New Hampshire in which he performed live at the Cutting Room to select A&R representatives. He has appeared in a range of venues from the Southern New England area to performances in California. I love playing out live! It is the greatest!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It saves time with the EPK and makes digital sales possible. This is great for the unsigned artists. People might finally get to choose the quality and genre of music they hear instead of being dictated to for a change! It also makes it possible to hear some great artist that probably would not get heard otherwise.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, I would like to not only achieve notoriety among progressive rock instrumental metal fans but avoid the mundane employment all together and give more focus to the music!

Band History:
At the age of 5 years old he took Classical Guitar lessons. Later, in pursuing his strong interest in music he attended open classes at the Conservatory of Music in MA. Here he took composition, advanced composition and Music Theory, Jazz, Blues and of course rock.

His current releases are “Playing With Time” (2006)and “Trial” (2003). The newer CD has 7 songs. Each song is a movement of a larger piece. On both of these CDs he plays the lead guitar, drums, bass and keyboard. Most of his songs start from a small strain of sound and a simple idea. The final pieces that you hear are created by overlays of actual live played instruments.
