Jimmy Kartel was born November 27 in Yonkers, NY...He grew up in a 1 room subdivision with his parents...He soon moved to Bridgeport than came back to Stamford, CT where he currently resides...He learned that whatever wouldn't be given to you, you have to earn it...so at the age of 12, he started selling marijuana to his classmates...he followed this up until junior year at high school, when he found a new love of hip hop once he recorded his first track...and the rest is history...
Why this name?
Kartel, other wise spelled "Cartel", is another word for business...and Jim is a name that is sometimes associated with weed...so you get the point...
Do you play live?
Haven't played live yet...I can't jump into things, I'm still trying to improve and I cant perform live until I'm 100% confident in what I am doing...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well, there are negatives and positives to it...The internet gives you a more broader audience and more exposure to the public...However, the internet does cause problems for artists because of bootlegging...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Nope, nowadays artists that sign with a Major Label are signing their soul to the devil...I'm not bout that I want the freedom to make the music I want and want to be able to have total authority over it...
Your influences?
I'm influenced by alot of artists that have more things to say than just shooting guns, slinging crack, and claiming they on sum g shit...Artists like Papoose, Eminem, Immortal Technique, Ali Vegas, Jay-Z, Nas...Those artists are so versatile and come so hard that their mixtapes are better den what these other cats putting out for albums...
