This is just some simple home recordings, all original stuff. I'm working completely solo right now, but always open to meeting new people to jam with.
Why this name?
I've been using the name Salamander as a stage name for a group that I'm in that does fire performance, and I figured I might as well use it for my music too.
Do you play live?
I don't currently play live anywhere. I have done so in the past and I've loved it. I've never played anything too big. . . 100 or so people is probably the biggest crowd I've been in front of. I've done lots of open mic nights at coffee houses and those have probably been my favorite shows. One band that I was in went almost weekly to one open mic night and they started giving us a half hour instead of the usual 15 minutes because everyone liked us so much.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It means that I don't have to get discovered and signed by a major label or lay out a large amount of my own money to record my music and distribute it in order to get my music out where it can be heard by a bunch of people. Even if only a handful of people ever visit this sight and listen to my songs it's still more than would have been possible without the internet and mp3 technology.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Probably
Your influences?
A little of this and a little of that. . . The Beatles of course, old David Bowie, Syd Barrett, been listening to a a bit of jazz lately. . . Jaco Pastorious, Patricia Barber. . . not that my stuff really sounds like any of this, but that's who I've been listening to and I don't really know where to classify my music.
