Sons of the Revolution is an underground Progressive/Hard-Rock band out of Kalamazoo, MI devoted to making excellent music for it's fans and bringing a fresh new edge to the decaying Rock scene.
Why this name?
Our band name revieled itself through one of many in-depth conversations among our band-members.
Do you play live?
We play live @ Club Soda-(Kalamazoo, MI) *The Corner Bar-(Kalamazoo,MI) *The Dog House-(Kal),*Papa Pete's-(Kal), *The Rocker-(Grand Rapids,MI) *Planet Rock-(Battle Creek,MI) and The Note-(Chicago,ILL). We love to play Live as much as we can! Our favorite gig to play is Planet Rock because of the great sound-system!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Internet music improves the marketing of bands to their fans by making it more accessable and allowing for a broader range of music for people to choose from.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We would sign with a major label in a heartbeat! (after reviewing the contract and approving)
Band History:
Sons of the Revolution is a local, self-produced band in the Kalamazoo, MI area. Many of you have known us as the band VEGA from all the Van-Kal parties that WE throw. We ran into legal issues with that name, due to a band in Lansing, MI with the same name, so we used this opportunity to become “Sons of the Revolution” to better suit the band’s direction. This worked out great for us because, though we didn't realize it at the time, the band itself was growing and changing. After losing a guitarist and a bassist, we welcomed a new member, Todd Reese, as our bass player. Since then our name changed and even our musical style is evolving closer to the sound we've been searching for.
The three longest standing members: Matt Williams, Joe Earle, and I (Matthew Wills) began our musical journey in with the local metal band called Rysen. That band fell apart and Joe and I stuck together and formed a new band (VEGA) in October 2004 with Joe on drums and me on guitar. We decided that we no longer wanted to play metal and were pursuing a harder, more progressive rock style that would be vocal-driven and less showcase. Three weeks later we had a singer (Ian Edwards) and Tadd on bass. We played our first show as Vega at our Roctober Fest 05' party at our home on Van-Kal. That night Matt Williams saw us play and became interested in singing for us. When Ian left the band we called Matt and asked him if he wanted to join us again, and he was over within hours to tryout.
The rest is history. We recorded our own demo, which is on our website: www.myspace.com/sotrevolution , by ourselves with our own recording equipment, with no experience recording – with money being tight and punchin' a time-clock all week for pennies, we made due with what we had. So enjoy the songs, there's much of our time that we put into this band and we offer it to you free to enjoy. All we would like to see is some new faces at our shows. There’s nothing greater for a musician than to see fans enjoy the music we created. So hope to see ya soon!
