Primum Mobile is a solo project that was started by Scott Carey.
In 1995 I finally got myself a 4 track recorder. I put out my first (seriously)-low budget- independent album called "Emotional Experiment" Being very limited with tracks and money, I had to be very creative to get the lush/melodic sound I was searching for. So, this is where my obsession for layering, and atmospheric noise began to develope- fill in the gaps-so to speak.
Next album "Anhedonia" was done on a 8 track. Much more experimental, and progressive-layered quite a bit.
New album "What You Look At Disappears" 16 track recorder-------this is boring!!!!!!! ok, i'm really emotional-my music is anything but a lie. If I did'nt have my music, I could very well be in a mental hospital thinking about other avenues right now. Yet, I do have it- and so i'm going to use it to sneak in your backdoor quietly and crush you with a emotional breakdown-maybe not.....hopefully though*
Why this name?
I was in a philosophy class, and we were talking about outer space. Primum Mobile= the outer sphere of heaven, enrapturing fixed stars.
Do you play live?
I play around the RDU area of NC. I love a good connection when i'm playing, it reminds me to live a little.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Yes, absolutely! I feel that done with the right intentions the internet has been great for the music/bands/artists. I'm not sure I really care about the industry so much- that's questionable though. The industry is like a blind sheep, it will go anywhere it thinks comfort, and security are at the moment. So, yeah, I guess the internet does change the music industry. It makes it more difficult for the industry to control the artists rights, and rightful freedoms that go within their art.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Not all major labels are bad. There are good people out there. They're just far and few between. Sometimes as a artist you have to take your knocks! Meeting jerks is all part of the game- it makes you stronger though* Just be yourself!
Your influences?
Smashing Pumpkins/Radiohead/Slowdive/Mum/Lush/Sigur Rios/LadyTron/M83/Depeche Mode/KLF/Sonic Youth/Bright Eyes/Mazzy Star
Favorite spot?
I have a imaginary spot- i don't know if it exsists though- i feel that it does. By the ocean, overcast dark clouds, really windy- very ominous. Just a few people really. Pretty, calming music in the background. I would go there just to be myself- and leave every single bit of baggage in my life behind*
