[distopia] = A society characterized by human misery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding.
-[distopia] was formed in 2005, location: Athens, Greece. Sole member-Nick (aka XVI). Inspired by the urban industrial sub-culture, combining both social and religious/occult/sci-fi themes. Dark, haunting atmospheres, dark pounding beats, noisy and violent soundscapes and twisted surreal graphics. The sound could be described as dark ambient, industrial, technoid and last but not least as soundtrack/cinematic ambient...
-[distopia] released a demo in summer 2006, which was circulated in a very small basis and joined RottingHam net label later in 2006. The first full length named "Non_Entity" was released in Feb 2007, followed by a proposal to take part in a remix compilation for greek punk veterans, Antidrasi, and a proposal to participate in a movie soundtrack, although that never came to terms. Summer of 2007 gave two more releases, "Timescape EP", an EP connected to the following full length, "Hollow", and "Research On Human Dementia", a collaboration with italian noise artist TSIDMZ. Later contributed to Heat From A Deadstar with a remix of their song "From Nowhere To Nowhere".
-Latest release is split with Gas Masked Lestat. This is the first release by Species, my and GMLs DIY label, released in digipak CD-R format. A couple of othere releases are being finalised, a new full length ("Hollow") to be released in 2008 and one more EP called "The Somnambulist", which will be released by Format Noise April 2008.

Why this name?
This is distopia. A world under social control. A nation-state ruled by an upper class with few, or no, democratic ideals. Total control by the state of all economic activity. State propaganda programs and educational systems that scare most citizens into worshipping the state and its government. Strict conformity among citizens and a general assumption that dissent and individuality are bad. Fear of, or disgust at, the world outside the state. Complete domination by a state religion. Constant surveillance by governments or other agencies. Absence, or total co-option, of an educated middle class. Construction of fictional views of reality that the populace is coerced into believing. Corruption, impotence, or other usurpation of democratic institutions. An overall slow decay of all systems (political, economic, religion, infrastructure), resulting from people being alienated from nature, the State, society, family, and themselves.
Band History:
-The project is influenced by life and all that stem from life. My personal thoughts and experience, my personal "itches", my personal opinions and every little thing that stems from all that. Life influences [distopia] and [distopia] influences my life. Political and social decay, my beliefs on the church, religion, people i¢m obliged to communicate with and get along with, my personal views on everything, past and present conflicts and experience . And yes, im always discontent. I dont like the world i live in, and thats what keeps me going. I dont say its ok and revel in my ignorance!
