hi, my name is matt battaglia (i will risk the last name so old peeps can find me).. i also go by the cheeseball music alias kid chemical. im from selden, new york (long island) and i make different types of music, mostly lo-fi electronic indie junk. i use ableton live to sequence everything. the sounds come from various synthesizers and samplers (lots of vst's and korg electribes). i also use gameboys with nanoloop and little sound dj, c64 with paul slocum's cynthcart and the prophet 64 cart, atari 2600 with pal slocum's synthcart, opl3-soundblaster 16 with adlib tracker 2, and lots of casio and yamaha toy and mid-pro home keyboards, some circuit bent some not. amoung these, my favorites are my casio mt-40, casio vl-tone, casio mt-68, my yamaha pss-470 and my yamaha pss-380, as well as my bent casio sk1's. i have some other stuff and im always adding more, though i am trying to stop hording gear. i also have a couple of other projects under different alias's. one called [autochord], that only uses casio's and yamaha toy keyboards + cynthcart. the other is called [duck pocket locket bucket], which is punk made with synths, samplers and circuit bent stuff insted of guitars etc. most of the songs are minimal so they can be easily performed live, where as kid chemical songs are difficult to perform (READ: too much multi-tracking).anyways, thanks for checking me, please enjoy.
Why this name?
one particulary pretenious train of thought i had....
Do you play live?
working on it....
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
music existed long before there was a "music industry", so the whole thing is dumb. there are plenty of ways to make a reasonable living as a musician even if people are sharing your music. and if you can't, make music cuz you love to and get a f*#@king job...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
i would love too,.
Band History:
played bass in garage bands then later started rapping. i wanted beats to rhyme over, so i bought a korg em1. got more into making electronic music than rapping, tho i still do me indie rap shtick from time to time...
Your influences?
anticon, def jux, warp, mush records, classic rock like zep and hendrix and the doors, all sorts of indie hip-hop and rock, 8bit peoples, casio artists like ctftpa, and everything else i hear and see.....
Favorite spot?
nyc is great, i also love the upstate ny boondocks. long island is cool too (except for the yuppie towns) basically i heart ny, like the shirt says
