DiGi Valentine. Bunny man rapper who tries to be a little different than what is out there in hip-hop right now. Hi. How are you?
Why this name?
The name 'DiGi' has been around for a very long time and came from the name 'Digital Pimp', which was a nickname i had during my teenage years. After i grew up a little i dropped the 'Pimp' from the title and shortened 'Digital' to just 'DiGi'.
'Valentine' is my inner-self/heart/soul . The name 'DiGi Valentine' was formed and covers both sides of my persona. DiGi is me as who i am everyday of the week and Valentine is the 'bunny man' in me who bounces around, makes a noise and is a lively boy...though saying that, he has an emotional side too. You'll see what i mean once you check out some of the songs.
Ladies and Gentlemen. I am DiGi Valentine. Pleased to meet you.
Do you play live?
Nah, i don't play live. I just make occasional tracks for friends to listen to. I'm not really in this for the fame, i'm just here to speak my mind and everything else that comes tied to it. I like people to listen and enjoy my work but i i'm not chasing a career.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
A major label? Hmm. I don't think any label out there is gonna let me make an album and sell it 'as is', see? I just wanna make music, i don't wanna tour and do stage shows to promote my stuff, i just wanna kick back and let people hear it themselves. As i've said before, i'm not chasing a career here but if i make any money from my music then it's a bonus to me.
Band History:
Me and my cousin Fue Fuestars would listen to old skool garage and various hip hop artists back in the late 90's and at some random point we decided to try and write our own lyrics. Needless to say but they were shit. A few years later and our styles developed a bit but it wasn't settled yet. It's only now, in 2008, are both me and Fue understanding our own styles - what makes us who we are. We been writing bars for nearly a decade now.
Your influences?
I listen to mostly anything before i decide if i like something. I mean, i listen to Hip Hop alot aswell as RnB but you can catch me checking out a tune from something like System of a Down or The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. In terms of actual artists:
Sway Dasafo - one of UK's finest. Dcyyyphaaaaaa!!
K-Lashnek-Off - Was the first rapper i heard from the UK to spit bars and retain the british accent instead of trying to don an American one. He got me to realize the UK scene was always there.
Fue Fuestars - My younger cousin, who i once taught how to write raps yet has now become a better lyricist than me. I swear, he's sick. Safe.
Favorite spot?
LDN central, near the River Thames and the London Eye. Just hanging around there is nice, man. The heartland of the city.
Edinburgh too. That's another home of mine. I love the city to pieces.
Equipment used:
Just a standard microphone and some recording equipment.
