A jazzy, bluesy, neo-soul flavored joint. This sound is much different from my other pieces, but the message is still there. I played live and semi-unplugged on this joint. (Check out the horns!)
A social commentary. It may not be what you want to hear, but it's definitely something you NEED to hear.
I decided to do something with a little bit of sensuality for a change.
This is the instrumental to 'From the Horse's Mouth.' I consider this one of my most complete joints. It has a laid back, funk/jazz feel to it...something to nod your head to.
Basically a whole bunch of punchlines and metaphors rolled into 3 minutes and 55 seconds.
This is basically a song about someone struggling with his spirituality and his ability to remain faithful. I redid an old Jacksons song (Heartbreak Hotel). I think it goes perfectly with the subject matter.
I threw this together in about 30 minutes. A smoothed-out funk joint.
More abstract lyricism. I made this in about 30 minutes.
Like Common once said...'I used to love H.E.R.' Hip hop has really disappointed me lately. I decided to make a song about 'lost love' over a smoothed out, laid- back, jazzy, Neo-Soul track. I played live drums on this one.
A whole lotta confidence with just a tiny bit of arrogance...Who says poets can't have a swagger?
A laid back song with a wicked bassline, twisted melodies, and a hint of strings.
This is the tightest joint I've done so far. It's got a smooth melody & a hard hitting beat. As usual, I played all the instruments, and my homie 3 Grand mixed and mastered it. Listen carefully...it's a MONSTER!
Instrumental to 'Overhead Abstract.' This is one of my favorites, because it shows off all the different instruments that I play. The static is intentional!
This is the instrumental to 'My Swagger.' My best instrumental work to date. I'm paying homage to old school 1970s-style funk...Bass, guitars, and clavi with heavy drums, and a touch of scratching. It gets really funky at the 3:30 mark
I decided to leave the 'abstract stuff' at home for this one...DarkPoet gets sensitive!
Instrumental to 'Divorcing Hip Hop.' Laid-back, jazzy, with a neo-soul feel to it.
This is the instrumental to 'Never Enough Time.' I made this beat in about 30 minutes. It's laid back with guitars, strings, and bass. Something to relax and nod your head to.
Poetry is many things to many different people who enjoy it. This piece describes poetry as different incarnations of who I am.
A lyrical masterpiece. The beat is low key in order to focus on the words. Synths, guitars, strings...retro-futuristic.
My definition of what 'real' is.
Like a lot of my poetry, this contains a lot of metaphors and punchlines. If you blink, you might miss something...Don't Blink!
Instrumental to 'More Abstract Sh*t.' This gives you a chance to hear just how crazy the track really is...retro-futuristic.
