4 New Tunes posted. (The first 4 in the list.)
And the 15 that follow those are now available together as
the "Sensitive Man" album.
MY WRITING REFLECTS A SOMEWHAT SCATTERED APPROACH TO LIFE:
backpacking through Asia in the 70's ...
crawling around in the cargo hold of a 747 on the runway in Mauritius ...
working with street addicts as a Psychiatric Nurse in Vancouver ...
teaching yoga to the Canadian National Snowboard Team ...
flying around in Himalayan thermals with eagles for 2 1/2 hours while paragliding in Nepal ...
working in an iron ore mining town in the Australian outback ...
seeing 1-200 patients a day with an Ayurvedic Physician in Bombay who could take your pulse for 45 seconds then tell you your complete medical history ...
studying martial arts in Japan ...
pumping gas, pulling boards from a greenchain in a lumber mill, serving meals, organizing political protests, washing dishes, running a company, writing investigative journalism ...
like I said - scattered.
Which is why the music comes from so many different directions. (Hard to fit into a niche when you've spent so much of your life avoiding them.)
If there is one common theme in my lyrics, it is to share an emotional adventure - an event that changes us somehow. Which is why I'm often inspired by powerful novels, films, and 'real' life happening all around me. (And yes, some of the songs are autobiographical.)
If any of the songs touch you in some way, then I'm grateful. And pleased. Drop me a line to let me know and I'll pass on your energy to feed whoever it is in the Universe that keeps sending these things my way ;-))
With every good wish!
Van
PS
- First 16 are in the 'SENSITIVE MAN' genre
- Next 7 (from I'm Searching) are 'POLITICAL MAN'
- Then 7 FEMALE VOCALS (starting with McKay)
- Then INSTRUMENTALS ... KID'S STORIES ... all kinds of stuff.

An anthem for all ladies who have reached an age of ... distinction. ;-)) (Updated version on video page.)

(*Unless you've got great audio set up, the sound is much better
with headphones.)
The song in the VIDEO ABOVE was written for a few gal friends
who were facing 'milestone' birthdays (one of those with a zero
at the end).
Thanks to Roxanne for the title, the courage to get up and sing
with almost no practice, and priceless insights into the female mind
when it looks in the mirror ... at any age! ;-))
(An updated version of the song performed in a bar full of strangers
is on the video page.)
ALL THE OTHER TUNES have a broad range of production values -
from studio work, to raw live performances on acoustic instruments
back in the days of killer tape hiss. (All were produced as song demos,
not artist demos.)
IF YOU'RE A LYRIC FAN, click on the "full" or "full song info" link and
play the songs from there. That way you can read the lyrics at the
bottom of the page as the song plays.
I am guilty of all the words, music, arrangements, production, and
male vocals.
Fortunately, for both you AND me, friends handled the female vocals.
(Thanks Leanne, Bodra, Dianne, & Roxanne!)
See ya out there!

Why this name?
I was gonna call me "Sting" but somebody told me
it had already been taken. Never heard of him. You?

Do you play live?
Sure, I perform live. Just give me a minute to get these bagpipes
warmed up ... hey, wait ... where are you going??

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Internet? What's the internet?
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No. I would much rather die in bitter obscurity than
take a chance that huge amounts of cash and marketing
expertise could change my life for the better.
(Ashleigh Brilliant once said, "All I ask for is a chance
to prove that money can't make me happy.")

Band History:
It all started many years ago on a dark and stormy night
when my parents had put my older brothers to bed and
momentarily forgot how exhausting it was to raise TWO sons,
let alone three ...

Favorite spot?
Paragliding at 6,000 feet over Pokhara, Nepal ...
25,000 foot peaks on the horizon ...
ten massive eagles circling in a thermal with me ...

Equipment used:
I have a metal lathe,
a Sony PlayStation 2,
an electric drill with a dead battery,
and a bicycle pump.
Now you know why it's taken me so long to finish these demos.
