A talented singer/songwriter, Bonnie J Egbert has been writing and performing her own music since she was in junior high school.
Born Bonnie Goble in the small town of Magna, Utah (a town which has spawned well-known musicians such as the country trio SheDaisy) the multi-talented artist began at a young age with an unusual capacity for writing. At age 10, she submitted an original poem to an elementary school poetry contest where she had the singular experience of the judges determining that a child could not write in such a mature manner as she had, and was disqualified. That was a far greater compliment than winning would have been, however, and helped to forge a path that quickly led her to song writing; the art form where she found a home.
At age 14, with her already well-developed piano ability, Bonnie performed one of her first compositions, Love Without a Voice, to a packed house at a school music concert.
Combined with her dynamic soloist voice (she has been compared with Charlotte Church in a radio interview), Bonnie continued pursuing her music voraciously and received numerous awards. Her music began gaining critical acclaim when her song, If You Dare ("The Dragon Song"), gained numerous awards. such as Region Winner-1995 Reflections Contest, and the coveted Talent Award and title of Queen in local Scholarship Pageants. At 18 she recorded her first album, a collection of alternative folk ballads, entitled "Fairy Tales".
Bonnie was awarded a full scholarship to Weber State University for Vocal Performance. Bonnie was lead singer, keyboardist and backup guitarist in the Salt Lake City-area bands "Off the Record" and "Pure Element" for several years, and in 2001, embarked on a solo career. Her music spans a variety of styles, ranging from the lyrical imagery of If You Dare to the up-beat acoustic rock of The Curse and the electronica dance beat of Dandelions Den. Bonnie is also known for her inspirational and holiday music which has been featured in numerous independent compilation CD's. Bonnie married Ryan C Egbert in 2000.
Do you play live?
I play bookstores and festivals, hotels, churches. I love performing live.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet completely changed and is still changing the music industry. For example, albums are no longer the product in demand, it's now single downloads.
