Johnny's Music Page

"Hello. I'm Johnny Carter."
Why this name?
I have to thank my Dad for that one!
Do you play live?
I currently do more studio work than live performances.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it puts control back into the hands of the artists themselves. That is something that hurt artists for a long time - some suit and tie picking out the songs you will sing.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure!
Band History:

  • Southern Express

  • The Renegades

  • The Fugitives

Your influences?
I love the old standard, "Stone Cold" Country. I love Southern Rock, Rockabilly, and Blues.
Favorite spot?
Anywhere good music is being played!
Anything else...?
(For anyone who is curious, I am full-blood Comanche, straight out of Oklahoma. My life reads back like several good country songs put together. All I have to do is seperate them out, and put them to a tune.)

I grew up very poor (material-wise), and the elementary school I attended did not have a music education program. So, my Dad somehow managed to find the money to enroll me into a local private music school for trumpet and piano lessons every week. By 2nd grade, I was performing Chopin pieces on the piano in recitals, and performing jazz trumpet numbers by Maynard Ferguson. When I entered high school, I joined the jazz band and played the drums, trumpet, and trombone. I made it my mission to learn every instrument I could! I also played in the concert band on the trombone and the tympani. Immediately after high school, I decided to play the guitar. My Dad helped out again by getting me a $50 L.A. acoustic guitar from the local pawn shop, and I sat and strummed it endlessly until I taught myself to play. Soon after, I embarked on my journey as a country musician. I would not have had all the opportunities I have had without my Dad's support. I know he is looking down on me from Heaven - listening and watching, still. And everything I ever accomplish in my career is thanks to him. Thank you Daddy.

My favorite quote: "Ambition is a dream with a V-8 engine." - Elvis Presley

My prayer is that God would use me and my music to touch people. I give Him all the Glory, Praise, and Honor for giving me this talent and passion for music.

My wife and I have our own website called The Red Path.
