Cliff Dawe a Traditional Country Artist whose venue is leader, lead vocalist, rhythm guitar player with a band known as "Little Big Band" (Canadian Country Version) .
His female counterpart in the act was Anna Perreault. They played bar, lounge, fair, cabaret and rodeo venues throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario Canada!
Cliff started this act in 1988 and continues as a solo act today.

Cliff misses his music a great deal as recently he has fought a battle with bladder cancer which has prevented him from performing presently, he has successfully done well to control his cancer to remission and would like to get back into the swing of things with his music!

The songs chosen for this site are from an album that he and Anna Perreault put together called, "Boomerang"!

Anna Perreault sings harmony on the chorus lines and duets with Cliff Dawe on various songs throughout the album.

Cliff is an independent artist who came close to being signed with Warner Brothers ( Canada Ltd. ) and was offered a contract by Comstock Record’s executive Frank Fara out of Scottsdale, Arizona, but because of difficulties dealing and commuting back and forth between Canada and USA the deal didn’t materialize!

Cliff also had the same experience with Joey Welz of Caprice Records out of Philidelphia, so I guess lightning does strike twice!

Hence, there is a situation in getting airplay on , “Main Stream” radio in being an "Independent ” as well as being a “Traditional Country Singer”, and that is why he only sends his music to radio stations and media that are interested in” Independent” artists!

During 1990 – 1991 Cliff received extensive air-play in Europe and Canada from compilations with RDR promotions out of Toronto. Cliff presently gets regular airplay from KSEN Radio in Shelby Montana, Radio Artistopia and indieboom.com Ram Radio Live365.com/stations/lorojo and supercountryradio.com as well as others!

Why this name?
Little Big Band was chosen due to the fact that when we started off we tried out several musicians to create our band and sound but couldn't come up with members that fit with Anna Perreault and Cliff Dawe musically and when they found members that fit musically, then those members didn't fit personality wise!

So what they had to do was go out and purchase a synthesizer, so that drums, bass etc. could be implemented into their sound to fill in for the missing players!
As Cliff played rhythm guitar, Anna played piano and synthesizer - this filling in and their strong harmonies in voice made the duo sound like a full band! - This large sound that they had between the two of them is what made them decide to name themselves, "Little Big Band", and were registered as such.

They had no knowledge at the time that Colin James was about to call his band, "Colin James and His Little Big Band". That is why you will sometimes see "Little Big Band", ( Canadian Country Version ) written beside Cliff and Anna's band to distinguish between the two!

Later on in their road travels they found musicians that were compatible with them and expanded.
Do you play live?
Yes, however;
Cliff recently has fought a battle with bladder cancer which has prevented him from performing presently, he has successfully done well to control his cancer to a remissive state (Is now out of the danger zone )and would like to get back with his first love, his music!

Cliff is just now recovering, reforming and putting the pieces back together.

When Cliff's Doctors' give his health the go ahead for him to go back into clubs, lounges and casinos and perform, he'll be back "On the Road Again!"

Here are the cities he has played at, I may miss a few but I'll get some of them - so if you see your city or town and you've heard Cliff and Little Big Band live write us an email and say HI!

We Love playing anywhere folks love Traditional Country & Tonk Music!
Where there any special moments? Yes, many! Completion of the "Boomerang Album" Having had a Record Company from Nashville phone us while we we're Playing at the Portage Hotel ( which has recently burned down ) and telling us they were interested in our music!
All of the friends we met on the road who came to visit with us, as we'd travel on our circuit!

Having heard our music played on radio for the first time!
It was always a special time when we had folks tell us they enjoyed and liked our music!

Seeing a growing following come back to a club when we were in a town time after time!

Having had the folks at Mont Nebo Hotel and bar throw us a congratulatory album release party!

Things like that were very special to us and are well appreciated, we love our fans as much as they loved us!
We got to know a lot of our following personally as many of those cities and towns you see listed, we came back to play at many, many times in their bars or lounges, a lot of those folks became like family to us!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Yes, internet absolutely changes and levels the playing field for Independent Musicians. It puts them in a position of being able to compete with big name acts from major labels!

It allows Independent artists a medium to demonstrate and make their music attainable to more than just a few people at a time!

It allows for more creativity and gives the public access to greater choice in the music and songs they are able to hear!

Previously major Record and Music Corporations had the airspace completely tied up and under their control and could control who got heard and who didn't!

Therby, even the major labels' chosen artists were at the corporations mercy, one bad move on the part of the chosen artist and they were gone, this really cuts down on artistic freedom!

The record corporations were making the choice of what they allowed the public to choose as songs they liked!

That is why these last few years we have been hearing this cookie cutter sound!
The next song sounds like the last one that just finished, with no distinctive personality traits!

When Merle Haggard, George Jones, Willie Nelson,Moe Bandy, Don Williams, Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, Tammy Wynette and artists like them sang you didn't need a DJ to tell you who it was, you knew!

But this last 15 years or more it's not that easy to pick them out because they sound the same!

The big Corporations thought they found the formula for making money from artists - they'd just stream line and hone them to sound like the last hit and are grinding them out like baking cookies!

If they want it to be a Country singer they just throw a cowboy hat on the artists head and call it "New Country"!

That way you don't have to contract as many artists either, so they'd cut down on cost!

For the major label music corporations today it is not about the music, the artist, the song, the art of creating - it is about the bottom line sales on units that have gone through the cash register!
That is what makes music to the corporate music labels' ear!

For a while they had all the music sales and business going to the big music corporations,as the independents were pushed out they had no media !

The battle is still going on today, as from the big corporations point of view it is hard to share the pot, when for years they've been able to manipulate and have the whole pot, so now they think they own all the music!

As John Lennon said, the only people who think they own music are publishers and big record companies!
While the rest of the world thinks music is free!

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, provided there was some benefit in it for our well being and theirs!
There has to be something more than status and promises that are given and taken back out in a contract's legal jargon!
I know there has to be a benefit for the record company, I am not contrary to or against sensible profit, thats how business works!

However, I want to stand on equal footing and that business has to work reasonably for me to gain a satisfactory profit as well, otherwise there's no sense to wasting my time just for status and a big name. You can't put that in the bank or an investment and when I get old a big name will give me no comfort!

My belief is, "It is better to miss out on what might have been a good deal, than to be stuck with a bad deal!"

Been there done that and were not interested in making the same mistake!
