Uncle Red are a Scottish based rockabilly band with just a hint of country. To our amazement, it seems that rockabilly doesn't seem as popular up here, at least in terms of musicians. So far our audiences beg to differ, and long may that continue!
Why this name?
Uncle Red was the name of Clint Eastwood in the film`Honky Tonk Cowboy`.It was chosen by original member Donald ,Cheers man!.
Do you play live?
Oh yes! Live is where it's at: especially in the UK, there seems to have been an(very) healthy upsurge in Live music.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's healthy: the whole punk ethos of "DIY" has gone one step beyond and it's great for letting people know who and where you are. The major record companies are scared and let down as a whole industry has passed them by (even when they were told so), and now they want everyone not to play anymore: it was never their toy to begin with!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Highly unlikely, but still, rich pop-star sounds more romantic than "Roofer" when it comes to meeting girls.
Band History:
Colin & Donald (friends) organised a jam night at a local pub: a mixture of Scottish Folk, old-time Americana and rockabilly seems to work. From the jam nights there's 3 or 4 bands on the go.

Uncle Red is now Big John on guitar and vocals, the other john on washtub?slap bass and Mike on accordian/Backing vocals.and Ian gets his big drum and beats it

Colin still joins in at times.
Your influences?
rockabilly, rock'n'roll, elvis, johnny cash, Stray Cats, clash, punk (when noone is looking)
Favorite spot?
Stricktly local at the moment, but prepared to travel (we live to update this post!)
Equipment used:
Gretsch guitars, Fender amps, honner accordians, doghouse bass and kenyan tea chests.oh aye an a big ol` drum.
