Why this name?
Staplefoote' my real last name, was actually my real last choice, but of all the names I was thinking about for my band, everyone that saw it thought it was the most memorable, also my music is soooo electronic, I felt the name
S t a p l e f o o t e would help in making my machine-like funk more digestible initially.
Do you play live?
I have played live before, in Europe in other bands, but never with Staplêfoote. I hope to do stage shows very very soon!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think that the data format, makes this media accessible to anyone. It makes it harder for the industry giants to suppress musicians of new styles of music from making a living with their music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Hell, yeah! Make me an offer!

S O N G S P O T L I G H T (The Darkness, Interview with Staplêfoote:)

NADM: What is your favorite song on the album?

Staplêfoote: My favorite song is by far 'Tribe Summer'.

NADM: Interesting. It doesn’t stand out as much as the other songs on your album, respectably speaking.

Staplêfoote: Uh huh, True the song is not as complex or produced as the other songs on this album; I even had a couple friends listen to the mix and tell me not to even include that song on this album -not so much that they didn't like it but more so, because of the crappy harmonics. 'Arborescence', and 'Come with Me' are the most complex and intricately produced songs on the album. However, 'Tribes Summer' is the heart of 'the concept' of this album. It has this very vintage, kind of vibe, it's like goth-motown, or a new take on a Screamin?Jay Hawkins tune. It is also the first song I actually sung (held a note on) for this album, I was physically exhausted by the time I got to this song, I had been rapping, and doing the vocalizations for the spoken word tracks and then the I did maybe one or two takes of it, and said that's a wrap, because I didn't really see it as actually being a part of this album, it was more or less just something I was trying out.

NADM: Arborescence, struck me as a stand out....

Staplêfoote: Really, why is that?

NADM: I couldn’t understand a thing you were saying! But yet I got a sense of what the song was about....

Staplêfoote: Well the illegible vocals were intentional, I call it jungle-voice, just like jungle-beats are created from slices of several similar or dissimilar drum loops. It is the same thing I do with my vocals loops from time to time.

NADM: (Laughs)

Staplêfoote: What's with the giggle. (Grins)

NADM: Jungle-Voice, that was unexpected.

Staplêfoote: Yeah, I suppose there is a slicker way to say that.
