You've reached the official smooth groove records website address/tin soldiers artist page, and just for your info. I will be starting to look for new talent sometime late january '07, so for all artists who wanna get signed, and put out an album... This is your chance to start making things happen, So that means it's time to start sending me your demos!!! Send me at least three of your best songs....If I like what I hear, then will talk shop, and if you've got the cream you will rise to the top!!
Why this name?
It actually started as the title to one of my songs, named "Tin Soldiers" which is about family's missing loved ones in Iraq. However the name seemed kind of fitting since I was in the Infantry, until I was honorably discharged due to medical issues beyond my control...Still I got married, and have a handsome 2yr old boy as a result of that accident. Way I see it that is a fair trade of, cause now I have a blossoming music career, and a Indie Label that I devote my time to....Needless to say I love what I do, and I wouldn't trade it for the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you play live?
I'm in the process of getting a line up of great songwriters, singers, DJs, and break dancers... However you can still look forward to at least two performances by yours truly in collaboration with the artists. Mostly I'll be that guy in the back selling cds at the upcoming shows, and promoting like Dr. Frankenstein creating his abnormal brained monster...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it has changed the music industry a great deal, because you can get your music to a larger audience. Instead of touring around the world, or sending out your demos through snail mail, it can all be done within seconds, and without even leaving your home...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, I would in a heartbeat, and I hope musically I reach that point, but until then I will just keep putting my stuff out there.
Your influences?
I mostly stick to the styles of R&B, Rap, and Hip Hop. Artists who have influenced me the most are Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Lil'Bow Wow, Chris Brown, Azyet, MC Lyte, Mary J. Blige, X to the Z, P Diddy, Russel Simmons, Ne Yo, Jay-Z, Eminem, and I could go on forever...... They all have contributed in some way to my style, and flava of writing lyrics!
Favorite spot?
I think my favorite city is the Minneapolis/St.Paul area of Minnesota, because it's a happening place to book shows, and talent...But if I have to go from city to city all over the U.S. on tour just to get the artists music to the world, then I plan to do it!!!! Lets just say I'm bound an determined to make sure they come out on top, and I plan to be a major label someday. Until then I will take them as far as possible, and hope a major label picks them up, as a result of all my hard work!!!!
Equipment used:
Some audacity software, drum machine, omega for laying tracks with musical instruments, John Buxton who's on my staff of musicians, and there is also another label who I've made contacts with.... So I swear that If I can't fulfill your needs as an artist, I will personally hook you up with them myself..You can hold me to that..That's my solem promise, If I can't do it I promise I will send you to someone who can!!!!
