The Sounds of Eric Willis

Keyboardist, Composer, Arranger, Producer, Teacher
Why this name?
I developed a reputation in the Dallas, Fort Worth area for being the person who can step into any musical situation and contribute to the enhancement of the presentation. As a result, I have become the name (Eric Willis) called upon by some of the finest musicians in the Dallas area.
Do you play live?
One of my favorite places to perform live is Brooklyn Jazz Cafe in downtown Dallas. I also have the pleasure of touring with Wayman Tisdale (Rendezvous Recording Artist). I wrote and produced the title song "Bounce" on Tom Braxton's new cd (Rendezvous Records). My performance credits include: Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, Les McCann, Angela Bofill, Melba Moore and Roy Hargrove among others.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has changed the music industry forever. We now have access to hear and experience the great gifts of others without being subjected to one or two people who decide whether we are good enough to be heard.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
"Record deals" can still provide us with opportunities benefits that we may not have the lattitude to acquire on our own. Under the right conditions, I would definitely sign.

Your influences?
I love the writing styles of Lionel Richie and Richard Smallwood. Joe Sample and Keith Jarrett are my favorite pianists.

I love New Orleans for its groove; the rhythms that are indiginous to that place are rarely found any where else in the country.
