Phraseologist, poet, philosopher, and magnificent wordsmith, Columbo Black is the antithesis of what the masses fathom as a west coast rapper. Born in Hollywood, raised in Compton, Columbo etches lofty and eloquent thoughts within a style that he admits was heavily influenced by artists such as Canibus, Nas, Black Thought, and Ghostface Killah just to name a few. With a distinctively electric voice, Columbo catches the listeners attention in an instance while they cant help but become cognizant of the sheer wisdom and wit that jumps from his page. Blackness didnt pick up a pen to write until 2004, which was when he knew he was ready to execute the art he had studied exhaustively for some 20 years. He recollects the times in the dormitories at Morehouse College in Atlanta (where he got his B.A. in English) when he heard NYCE, now of Broady Champs, flow with an intensity and skill unparalled. It was then that the manipulation of words and sentences became an obsession and he wouldnt stop till he became the greatest wordsmith in Compton. In time the concept of Rapeconomy came to fruition. Rapeconomy is a concept that embraces a unified theory of flow or sentence. Here are some of the precepts: i. Anything can be rhymed whether word or phrase ii. Saying more with less iii. One should never confuse superfluousness with loftiness of phrase iv. Real skills are undeniable v. Hooks and maybe a few bars being the exception, GHOSTWRITERS ARE UNACCEPTABLE. PERIOD!!!! vi. Never mistake objectivity with arrogance. In 2006, Columbo officially swore his allegiance to LifeLess, an elite alliance of artists, which includes Perfecto (The Voice of Inglewood), Captain Apollo (T.C. a.k.a. Good Game), Deadly (Dead End Kid), Knox, Ghost, Rapioseize and Pornographic. In sum, true Hip-Hop and lyricism has gone beyond the borders of the east coast and has found a safe haven in Compton. Listen and judge for yourself. Comptons Greatest !!! Columbo Black will be featured on 45 db Production's upcoming compilation "Destruction of Order Vol. 2" coming in November.
