Founded in 1998 by Jason Mullinax (pilesar) and Michael Coleman (karakul), Art Nada began life as an experimental home recording project. Armed only with a 4-track and an arsenal of toys, gadgets and effects, the duo frantically recorded hours of material that it later would dub "incidental music for non-existent films." Because of their use of bizarre instrumentation and quirky song structures, Art Nada's work has drawn many comparisons to that of The Residents, The Boredoms, Ween, Frank Zappa, and Renaldo and the Loaf. Nearly a year and a half after its inception, the duet changed its name and decided that it was time to take their oddball shenanigans to the stage. But that is a whole other story.....

While technically no longer active, there is a cache of unreleased material that I hope to mix and release soon. Whether or not that actually happens is anyone's guess...
Why this name?
my grandmother would always tell me that i'd "ought not a" do something (like drive down to charleston, south carolina in the middle of a hurricane). one day, it sounded like she said "art nada" and i thought that it was so PROFOUND:)! i then decided that i'd call my next project art nada...
