La Femme Nikita started writing poetry when she was 13 years old, and says, “the difference between me and other female emcee's is that I write my own shit…and help co-produce my own records.” Hinting to rumors that many female emcees don’t write their own material; La Femme Nikita, a.k.a. Natasha Walton 21, describes her sound as commercial and street.
When I asked La Femme Nikita about the difficulties of being a female emcee in the music game? “I see it two ways, one side is that there only a handful of female emcees, and the door is open for other female emcees to get on… the other side is, because it’s such a male driven industry niggas don’t respect you…niggas try to take you to their bedroom instead of helping you…you have to fight for respect as a female emcee.”
The 21-year-old emcee comes from the south, Texarkana, Texas to be exact, a border city between Texas and Arkansas, and says her musical influences are from hip-hop veterans and legends like Tupac, Mary J. Blige, and Texas native UGK.

Why this name?
I got my name from a friend, because he always made reference to the way I look. He said he wouldn't expect me to be rappin', let alone hard gangsta rap! He was like, I thought you were going to sing. So I sang and he was like oh s@%! dang guh you just going to creep up on a nigga! Your name should be La Femme NIKITA your like the assassin in that movie! You don't know what to expect! So the name stuck!
Do you play live?
Yes, I do perform live. I recently traveled to New York City to perform at Club T-NY along with Def Jam's Sam Scarfo, and Baby Grand/Purple City Records Agallah the Don Bishop. In fact I'll be in New York performing October 15th, AT R&R On 14th St. btw 9th and 10th, across the street from Lotus. Hosted by BET's Rap City Host "Mad Linx" with featured Performance by Buckshot from BlackMoon and the Boot Camp Clik! I love performing giving the people a chance to hear my music live in raw form.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Yes, It gives us independent artists a chance to be at industry level! Through digital distribution I'm able to sell my albums to my fans all over the world. Fans I have worked hard to attain! My single Ain't Nuthin' is doing real well right now! This is what Sound Scan is telling me anyway! LOL!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, I would sign a record contract with a major label to get the exposure that indies lack! I'd like to touch the masses with my music!
Band History:
MTV's Making of Da Band 3 1st season finalist La Femme NIKITA hails straight from the Lone Star State of Texas! Texarkana's Natasha Walton, code name: NIKITA had a natural love for music. Coming from a loving and very spiritual family, singing for the good Lord always came first. Natasha had been singing solos in church, performing in talent shows and writing her own songs since the age of 7. At the age of 13 Natasha started rapping, thus her alter ego NIKITA was born. It wasn't until in her later teen years she decided to take a chance at furthering her career by moving to the East Coast. New York, NY big city of dreams was her first choice being influinced by artists such as Mary J. Blige, Nas, The Notorious BIG., and Raekwon. NIKITA settled in East Orange, New Jersey, where she got a taste of the inner city street life. Moving to the East Coast was a major culture shock, and a huge transition for her, but she adapted quickly. Even though the East Coast was a big influence on her in terms of art and style, she still carries a respectable amount of southern hospitality which allows her to remain humble through it all. Even though she likes New York and all it has to offer, she insists that there no place like home. After Diddy's Making of Da Band 3 finals, NIKITA decided to move back to Texas. To date, La Femme NIKITA is back and forth between New York and Texas, putting the finishing touches on her album titled nom de code: NIKITA which will be independently released...
