I am a 1-woman band (& singer & songwriter) playing an instrument called a qchord. I've written songs since I was like 8 & have played a qchord (or its predecessor) since 1982. My music is primarily folk or folk rock, with a contemporary Christian flavor.
Why this name?
qchord is the name of my instrument. VIP stands for visually impaired player, &, since I'm completely blind....
Do you play live?
Mostly I play live at church, senior centers, hospital memorial services (my husband is a hospital chaplain). I enjoy interacting with the people. I *do not* enjoy the stage fright.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I've sold tapes of my songs for years, so there's always been kind of an underground music market, e.g., there's always been ways to promote your material. The internet, however, makes it easier as well as increases the depth & bredth of the audience base.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Are you kidding me? If given a nanobit of a chance!
Your influences?
My musical influences are from the 60's--Simon & Garfunkel, Peter, Paul, & Mary, Joan Baez, & John Denver, to name but a few. I've also been influenced considerably by John Michael Talbott, Don Fransisco, & Petra, again, to name but a few of the contemporary Christian artists who've influenced my music.
Favorite spot?
Lake Whitney, TX
Equipment used:
Besides the qchord, I use a pc to record midi & audio, Sonar, a Behringer ub 802 mixer, & a couple of sony microphones. Very low tech.
