If you grew up in "The Motor City", you grew up in one of the great blue-collar Midwestern towns in America. In Detroit, you learned that if you worked hard you could earn an honest living and share in your piece of the American Dream. Sounds pretty f***ing dull, doesn't it? But that's exactly why immigrants from all over the world came to Detroit. To have their piece of the pie. Because of the auto industry, Detroit became one of the great melting pots of the 20th century. It's hard to believe that music could emerge from such a bleak industrial foundation, but it has. There is not a corner on the planet that doesn't know about "The Motown Sound" - a sound created out of frustration, and disillusionment with the status quo. It was an escape for Detroit's youth. You had three choices... the factory, sports, or music. Detroit's streets became full of music.
Here at the beginning of the 21st century, the streets of Detroit are filled with music once again. Music fans from all over the world, as well as the music industry, are zeroing in on the Motor City. Robb Roy has been a part of the city's history, but now more than ever the band is a part of the city's musical future. If you live in Detroit then you have heard of Robb Roy. The band achieved "local hero status" when they helped write and record "Broken Wing", a song written to help raise money for injured Detroit Red Wings. The song, at its peak, stayed in the Michigan singles top ten charts for nearly 13 weeks. Detroit broadcast TV station WJBK produced a music video to go along with the song to further endear the group to the fine people of Detroit. When Robb Roy released "Heroes and Cocktails" in 1999, word of the band and their killer live show spread thanks to the hypnotic thump of their single "Shine". "Shine" has gone on to be one of the all time great Detroit rock songs of the past 20 years. Word of the band spread further thanks in part to all the airplay H&C received in Detroit and the Midwest.
With the release of "Happy", Robb Roy has established themselves in the international arena via the internet, radio and television. With new fans jumping on board every day, Robb Roy is fast becoming a modern rock success story. The band quickly learned that the best way to reach the people was to bring it to the people. Robb Roy has been touring extensively and have, because of their Motor City work ethic, been doing it the old fashioned way. If you want something done right, do it yourself. The band recently cut a video to their title track on "Happy". The video has been featured in On Stage magazine's recent multimedia CD and on ESPN Networks, which featured the group on X Trax, a music video program promoting the X Games. "Happy" has also been added into regular rotation this fall on MuchMusic USA, already in 40 million homes across the United States. Seen on ESPN, ESPN2 and MuchMusic in the States and internationally, the video has shown what everyone in Detroit already knows. Nevermind how damn cute these guys are, or how much taste they have, they just flat out ROCK!
With a band on every corner, in a city where they take their music very serious, Robb Roy has established themselves as THE modern rock giants of Detroit, and beyond.
