Why this name?
Deebo is the nickname given to me back when I was in high school. It just stuck with me.
Do you play live?
I used to play drums in a band a couple years ago. I do not do anything live at the moment. Me and my friends used to go to Guitar Center, go to the percussion section, and give the customers a live show really quick. The sales associates loved when we did that.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it is cool because you can upload your music and wait for the feedback. Its a lot easier than trying to promote and sell your work locally. People look for you, not the other way around.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Even if I was the best producer in the world I wouldn't. Well, if I was the best I wouldn't have to. To me, signing with a label means you are being pimped. Somebody owns you and are getting paid off of your labor. You only get a small percentage of your true earnings. If I ever sign to a label that means I must really need the money.
Your influences?
Devin the Dude, Outkast, Tupac (naturally), Scarface. Those are the names that pop into my head first but I like a lot of music and am inspired by even more. I like R&B, reggae, dance hall, and D.C. go-go. Sometimes I even listen to rock music. Them boys can play the hell out their instruments.
Favorite spot?
Born and raised in Camden, SC. Lived in Gaithersburg, MD for a little while. Visited spots in DC every now and then. Visited NYC twice. Hard to choose. I have to represent locally, but if I had a choice I would perform in DC.
Equipment used:
I am forced to build my studio from scratch because of some things that happened to me in the recent past. At the moment I am stuck inside the computer. I use Cakewalk Sonar 6 Producer Edition, just about everything from Native Instruments, Propellerhead Reason 3, Sony Sound Forge 8, Sony CD Architect 5.2, and Waves plugins. I am saving up for a Yamaha 01x digital mixer, Yamaha Motif keyboard, and a decent mic/preamp. Those are pretty good for the price for a home studio.
