atarimad is me. I'm a jack of all trades musician, cum songwriter, cum sound/recording engineer. My main instrument is bass guitar but latterly some rythmn and lead in a variety of bands, and occasionally drums.
Why this name?
As the name implies i'm a big fan of atari computers, mad about them in fact, owning 2 atari ST's for sequencing purposes, alongside various models of their home computers and gaming consoles.
Do you play live?
I regularly play live, but rarely as a solo artist, where I lack the confidence to 'go it alone'. Instead I can be found playing in Red Star Radio, Rioja and my covers duo, Dos Hombres. You can find out more about Red Star Radio on this site.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Obviously, for the small independant artists it is a free or cheap medium for the distribution of your material. I believe everyone is capable of at least one good song in their lifetime, and even though most people aren't consistent, it allows the songs that would otherwise remain in the writers heads to get out and be heard.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
You should never discount anything (I suppose that's a yes!)
Band History:
Only me, playing since the mid 70's, recording since the mid nineties, and sound engineering since 2000.
Your influences?
most of my early influences came from the 70's with bands like Yes, Black Sabbath, status quo very much my main bands. I later developed a taste for west coast american rock through bands like Toto who are still one of my favourite bands. Latterly my tastes have become more diverse with current favourites ranging from Coldplay to Porcupine tree.
Equipment used:
Blimey! for bass i have a 1975 USA fender precision with a custom Precision copy for back-up. I also use a 5-string acrylic Wesley bass. For normal guitar work I have a candy apple red Squire standard fat-strat, a late 70's CSI (CSL?) 59'er deluxe LP copy, cheapo telecaster and superstrat copies and a Crafter EA-75 CEQ electro-acoustic. for recording i use my Atari ST and Korg 05/RW sound module with an Akai DPS12 and 16. Additionally, I use a Tascam pocketstudio 5 for ideas.

For bass amplification I use a Tech soundsystems 200w combo with a laney 4x10" extension cab. for guitar I use an Ibanez toneblaster head and 2x12" cab.

Don't get me started on the PA kit!
