DON VA (FL)
NEWS   305 HIPHOP.COM INTERVIEW

Q: Don V.A., Stoned Fillups here with 305HipHop.com. Can I ask you a couple questions?
A: Yeah, no problem.
Q: Word is you got an album on the way. When is that scheduled to drop?
A: Well we are looking at the summer of 2007… give or take
Q: What’s the producer list look like?
A: Well, I’m working with Florida Room Productions of course, and with Top Secret Music along with some others.
Q: What featured artist you got on that?
A: It’s a little to soon to let you guys know but in due time… when we get a little closer to releasing I’ll give you guys a little taste of who is going to be on the album.
Q: What happen to Syndicato? I don’t see y’all together anymore, but peppered around. Did y’all break up?
A: Well, Song BMG decided to dissolve the project for whatever reasons. To me that’s a shame because everyone on the Syndicato album had something new to bring to the game. And I’m sure the people would have loved it!!! Believe me!!!!!
Q: Where can people go listen or get some of your music?
A: Well, you can go to myspace.com/donva or you can go to soundclick.com/donvafl
Q: If someone wanted to get you on a feature how should they go about that?
A: You can hit Freddy Fred of Florida Room on myspace.com/floridaroom for the East Coast or you can always hit me up.
Q: Man, “Traga Leche”, that’s some funny shit. What’s that about?
A: That’s an old Puerto Rican saying. The translation is “Milk Sallower”. You put the picture together. ; )
Q: I remember you had a track called “De Lao a Lao” then a couple months later I hear Voltio with a similar track. What’s up with that?
A: You’re right about that, but it was Cris y Angel that are also signed with Sony BMG. I ain’t saying there was foul play but the sh*** smells a little funny. I’m not saying, I’m just saying, you know what I’m saying. Haha..
Q: Aight, Don V.A., thanks for clearing up those things and letting us know what’s been up with you, we really appreciate it. Any last words before you bounce?
A: Yeah, I want to thank my fans for their support and also let the world know to stay posted cuz I haven’t even begun to hit the tip on the iceberg yet!! Much love!! – Don V.A.

On a Fall day in October on the "Enchanted" island of Puerto Rico (Isla de Encanto) was born yet another bright star in the Caribbean and a son to that beautiful lady we call Hip Hop. Don VA spent a carefree childhood on the island until age thirteen when his father moved the family to the U.S. mainland this is where it all begins.

After VA landed in Florida he realized the it was not the journey to America that was perilous but the months that followed that he would have to decide to sink or swim. He moved into a small trailer with his mother, father, and sister while trying to adjust to a new American identity. Shortly afterwards his parents split up, his brother is locked up in prison for life, and he loses three uncles to cancer. VA found solace in the expression of his emotions in an art form he first saw and fell in love with on "YO! MTV RAPS". VA began to blend the thumping Hip Hop beats he heard on television with the
Caribbean rhythm in his blood, with hardcore lyrics in English and Spanish, and with the addition of his God-given rugged baritone, it is easy to see how he acquired the title of Vocal Arsonist (VA).

Don VA then linked up with a team of New York based rappers and called themselves the Affiliados. The Affiliados have performed at a variety of shows in Florida, in Madison Square Garden, and on Video Mix. They have also done drops for 97.9 La Mega in New York, 99 Jamz, Power 96, and 103 the Beat in Miami. Don VA has also graced the screen as he portrayed a drug dealer in the independent flick "Shottas". He was also seen on cable in two Sprite commercials and doing a service announcement for the NAACP Teen Summit.

Don VA is still part of Affiliados but is working on a solo project in the lab these days. His goal is to fuse English and Spanish Rap once and for all. To bring a style that incorporates hardcore lyrics and a choppy Hip Hop flow, Latin undertones and feel, to let the world know the reality of a Puerto Rican American in 21st Century
