I started writing songs at the age of 14 with an acoustic guitar. Soon I was playing in a band with friends playing country and top 40. Next I played in a couple of eclectic bands with my brother. Then classic rock, then blues... and now I am writing songs with an acoustic guitar again.

This song is loosely based on the true story of my great-grandfather's rescue of a Japanese ship and crew. The picture is of the Provident Building in Tacoma circa 1906 - about the time of the story.
This song is about driving from the big city to a small northern town in one day. Written in the key of fifth gear, it's like ol' 55 north of 60.
Many years ago I stayed at a family run roadside motel while waiting to work in a bush camp. With a guitar and some imagination, I turned a situation that never happened into this.
