The acoustic rock band Waking Grey arrived on the Boston music scene in 2002. Playing alongside other Boston acts like Dispatch, Guster, and Brian Webb the band gained the trust and admiration of Boston fans and local heros. The band is currently working on a debut album and continuing to work harder and harder to give the fans what they want...the music.
Why this name?
The name was chosen for a few reasons. Mainly when the band was created the style of it's members and the feeling was to capture the acoustic feel that is inherent as a small group on an intimate stage. Our favorite color being Grey also helped. Secondly one of our favorite semi-local band and influences are the band Guster, who have a song that the lyrics say "Woke up today to everything Grey..." This song was playing in my car when I was deciding whether I liked the name Waking Grey, so it stuck.
Do you play live?
WG plays live around the boston and surround areas fequently. We love our live shows, they generate so much energy.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it allows independent musicians more freedom and allows us to escape the corporate disaster.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
probably not.
