My Name is Nathan Madse, I started playing the piano at age 14. I was watching a special on PBS of Gerswhin's Rhapsody In Blue and was mesmorised. I decided to learn how to play it. At my first piano recital I wore a tux and stepped up to the piano, other selections heard that night were mary had a little lamb and nick nack paddy wack give a dog a bone.
I played the first few bars and recieved a standing ovation. I began writing music at age 14 as well, lyric and music came naturaly to me as though I were listening to a radio station and writing down the words I was hearing. I won first place at the talent show for my college, a song I wrote about my then fiance now wife Rebecca who had lost the ability to walk and see at age 8. It was called little Ballerina. I love solo piano, and am fans of John Schmidt, Kurt Bestor, David Lanz, George Winston to name a few. I hope I can provide the same type of music for listeners to enjoy because I am also an avid listener as well.
Why this name?
My mom chose it when I was born( ha ha....)
Do you play live?
The roof in Salt Lake, ZCMI in Salt Lake, Nordstroms in DC, and I've played in my living room a few times as well... anyone's invited
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Great way to get the word out through community sites, get rid of the "we can't sign you(when you're unheard of), and then when you get popular enough they take all of your money..."
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
For a few million maybe... but for now I'll settle to be independent.
Your influences?
John Schmidt, Jim Brickman, Billy Joel, Elton John, Tim McGraw, George Winston, Motzart.
Favorite spot?
DC by far, Salt Lake second, music fans are great there...
Equipment used:
Kawai Grand, and digital Keyboards.
Anything else...?
I love lemon flavored anything, I love playing with my 3 year old son, and going to concerts with my wife Rebecca.
