I am a spoken word artist. My primary instruments are my voice and the passion, attitude, and conviction I bring with it. My specialty is, of course, spoken poetry.
Why this name?
I needed something unique, both in usage and in spelling. After playing around with some ideas, I came across the name of StrUHT. StrUHT is an acronym, standing for "Straight Up Holy Theology". As you can probably tell from the "Holy Theology" part of the name, a lot of pieces will have some spiritual content to them. While that is the case, my spoken word pieces cover a broad spectrum of areas and themes. However, in one sense or another, you can always tie my pieces back to my faith.
Do you play live?
As the opportunities come, I like to get in front of audiences and perform. The kind of poetry I do is meant to be seen and heard, so I definitely jump at any chance to perform.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The Internet has greatly leveled the playing field for artists, even supposed niche artists such as myself. The Internet gives us an instant voice by which we can be heard without the formalities of having to impress record execs or A&R reps.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If offered a chance to record professionally and commercially, I would consider it. However, I would only consider it so long as I creative control. I'm very sensitive to the messages I speak as they are reflective of who I am. So if I'm to exercise integrity, being able to look at myself in the mirror daily, then I've got to be able speak my words.
