Hello and thanks for visiting my page. I am a local independent musician from Indianapolis, Indiana. I have been playing music professionally for over twenty years. I have degrees in music theory and composition from Indiana State University and Indiana University. The songs you find here wil be a nice mix of alterative, indie and Christian music. Most of the Christian songs will not sound overtly "Christian" in nature lyrically. You really have to read into the lyrics. Most of them are written to appeal to the "unchurched" or those new to their faith walk. In the course of listening to various Christian artists I found that so many were sappy and typical. That is not to say that there are not good Christian musicians out there because there are. Those songs appeal to a wide range of Christians and that's great. However, I wanted to do something a little different. My songs are a bit more pragmatic in their approach. I hope you like them. Please give me any honest feedback. It is greatly appreciated.
Why this name?
Since that's my name this seems a rather moot question doesn't it?
Do you play live?
I play live at various venues around the Indianapolis area. Sometimes in coffee houses and other times with two other friends/musicians (bass & drums). I also play weekly in my church band "Grace Notes".
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is an awesome tool for those of us who cannot get his/her foot in the door of the industry. The internet lets us reach those who would otherwise not be reached.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would first have to speak with a lawyer versed in music industry law. I would then have to make sure none of my principals or ethics were not compromised.
Band History:
I have been in many musical bands and groups over the year including the bands STRANGE BUDDHAS, RATED "R" and SPINNAKER. I was also 2nd trombone in the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. I have also played tromebone in various jazz ensembles and big band groups. I also compose and arrange instrumental music.
Your influences?
I think I have a set of diverse musical influences from classical to rock. Here are my favorites:
Joe Strummer/Pete Townshend/Paul Westerberg/Warren Zevon/Phillip Glass/Eric Clapton/Jeff Beck/Oingo Boingo/Johnny Cash/Buddy Guy/Dashboard Confessional/Lou Reed/Mozart/Bartok/Ginger Baker/Lightening Hopkins/Charles Bukowski...
Favorite spot?
I really like downtown Indianapolis. I especially enjoy White River State Park in the heart of the city. I also enjoy the historical town of Madison, Indiana along the Ohio River. My wife and I really enjoy vacationing in Bonita Beach, Florida.
Equipment used:
I use Fender Stratocasters, Telecasters and Precision Basses and Alesis keyboards. My three main guitars are 1957 & 1974 Fender Stratocasters as well as a 1952 reissue Telecaster. For acoustic guitar I use a 1971 Gibson J-40. For live performances I use an early 1980's Fender Princeton Amp and farious Digitect Pedals and a Fender Blender. Most of my recording is computer based utilizing the following: Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro 3.0/Steinberg Cubase SE/Line 6 Tone Port/Beta Monkey Drum Loops/Alesis QS6.1 keyboard
