Band History:
In spite of what is usually considered a boy’s first name, Johnnie Proby is a lady with talent, charm and a love for others. A petite bundle of power, Johnnie’s crystal soprano voice sings everything from Gospel to jazz to classical to repertoire.
Like many performers, Johnnie’s talent first became evident when she started singing in church at age 5. As the next to the youngest of 13 children, Johnnie’s remarkable voice was the means of establishing her individual approach to life and finding the way to show God’s love to everyone she meets.
After years of singing in local churches and community functions, Johnnie’s vocal training was expanded while a music major at Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, Louisiana and at Southern University of New Orleans.
Johnnie’s compassion for others is enhanced by her mastery of “Barefoot Shiatzu,” a holistic, vocal, aerobic technique taught by the legendary Hope Foye. This technique has enable Johnnie to become a “Healing Voice” to those who hear her sing.
Johnnie’s years of professional training is evident in her voice. She brilliantly captivates her audience gliding across a wide scale of ranges. Her gift comes through as a sweet sound to awaken the spirit. Johnnie’s musical studies have helped her develop the skills necessary for concerts as well as theatre performance.
As a native of New Orleans, Johnnie shows the vitality and variety of the musical soul of that city. Whether singing gospel, pop, jazz or classical, Johnnie reached the heart of the listener with her sincerity and compassion for others.
In addition to her concert performances, Johnnie is a frequent performer at conferences, churches, special events, and charity benefits. Recently, Johnnie was among many performers at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in New Orleans. Johnnie’s rendition of the gospel classic ‘A Change is Gonna Come’ has been selected as the song of hope to the Crescent City and the listening audience has been quite receptive. So much so, a Proclamation from Mayor Ray Nagin was presented to Johnnie Proby on the evening of her successful CD release party on May 5, 2006. Johnnie also showed off her Louisiana roots while performing at a Jazz-A-Thon benefit for Hurricane Katrina survivors held at Carbine’s Jazz Alley in Los Angeles.

Johnnie’s newly released CD is titled ‘Life is Now’. After a series of devastating brush fires in the area of Southern California where Johnnie now resides, she wrote the title track. This song is the centerpiece of a CD that displays Johnnie’s vocal instrument in a variety of styles and moods that all communicate her desire to bring new appreciation of life to all who listen.

Regardless of our position in life, we all partake daily of that wondrous trip called life. The blend of musical spices that Johnnie shares on her CD and through her life, helps make the part of our lives we share with her an unforgettable journey.

Johnnie has been often called an 'uplifter' as her audiences experience the joy and elation she feels towards her music.
