Stereo Dreams have been together since summer of '05. Its a mix of jazz, rock, blues, folk, and yes even country. Lead singer, lead guitar player, and songwriter Kyle Yap, has a plethora of musical tastes and influences to write on, the drummer Jared Park and former bassist Jeff Dachauer added there own character and personality to the sound to make each song a Stereo Dreams masterpiece :) The band will be making music pleasant to the ears of at least themselves if no one else, long into the future.
Why this name?
Long road trip with a lot of time to think
Do you play live?
We've played shows across Illinois but mostly in our hometown Bloomington, IL. We play shows at coffeehouses, clubs and have taken a victory in a city wide battle of the bands event sponsored by a a local AAA radio station, which garnered them some airplay over a large listener area.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
For the most part it gives smaller band a lot more exposure and get people listening to become familiar with the smaller bands and HOPEFULLY those listeners will enjoy the music enough to want to support the band and its musicians by purchasing CDs and other merchandise. For the bigger bands that are signed to a label the MP3s SHOULD work as a promotional tool for their singles on an album but this rarely proves to be the case because people will download entire albums to avoid spending money on an artists album. As long as people don't abuse the MP3 downloads they for the most part are beneficial for smaller bands and detrimental for the bigger bands which levels the playing field and should make the artist strive to put out the best possible product and to actually care about their fans so that the fans will support the band
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the label continues to put itself before the artist then no but if we could find a small independent label looking for profit but still with the artist' best interest in mind that would promote and take care of studio time that would recoup expenses and then take percentage of sales and then pass on the finished album to a major label for distribution like the process the foo fighters have used on their past albums then YES
Your influences?
We take influence from literally every genre of music from of the course the obvious rock music to blues, country, jazz, metal, R&B, hip hop, and even classical compositions. From Third Eye Blind, to John Lee Hooker, Yngwei Malmsteen, to Alexi Laiho
Favorite spot?
We want to play in some chicago clubs and bars for a while to get our name out there
Equipment used:
Gibson guitars, fender basses, randall guitar amps, hartke bass amps, GHS strings yamaha and tame drums
Anything else...?
