My name is Alexandra Ivan and I live in Romania. I started writing songs and performing at the age of 12; then I recorded my first songs in a local studio and filmed a video that was quite succesful in the area (Oradea - West of Romania).

A few things about me: I write my own songs but still, I can't read notes, don't play any instruments and I have nothing to do with musical theory. Everything I do, musically, is based on feeling, it's raw, it comes straight from the heart - "no strings attached".

Three years ago I moved to Bucharest and since then I have been struggling to get a record deal, which is not very easy right now for a pop-rock singer. Pop-rock is not considered to be "commercial".
I have also been working as a composer/lyricist for some well-known Romanian artists like Foisorul de Foc or Etnic.

I will hopefully be able to concentrate more on my solo album in the near future. The songs are already written and they are waiting to be recorded...
Why this name?
Alexandra Ana Ivan is actually my real name.

After thinking about more "exotic" stage names like Songbird or Alexis, I figured it would be simply... nicer like this.

"Alexandra" is a pretty common name here in Romania, it comes from Greek and it means "the generous one". For all I know, it's a very popular name in Russia too.

"Ivan" is used in Russia both as a first name and a surname. I don't know so much about my family's genealogy, but sometimes I like to think that we have Russian roots.
Do you play live?
I love being on stage, there is absolutely no feeling that can compare to that! I have been performing for audiences since I was 14 so I am used to it and I enjoy it tremendously.
Plus, I never lip-synch. I am dedicated to performing 100% live.

I can't wait for my debut album to be ready so that I can get back on stage!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think Internet has changed everything, not only the music industry. It has helped create bonds between people all over the world and finally made any information available to anyone who owns a computer.

Mp3 saved the world :) for those who can't afford certain rare CDs or can't find them in their country, it's a miracle. I think sahring music should be encouraged...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, anytime, as long as it doesn't involve musical compromises.
