Bringing you back in the day when Hip Hop was born, the FHPros are doing it their way. Featuring DJ Scream and DJ Shout, both born in New York City, they've had a number of influences over the years going back to Kurtis Blow and Warp 9, Run DMC and KRS One, just to name a few. When you hear the tracks you can hear what they're all about, electrifying breakbeats that'll make you move, or at least bop your head, you just can't help it!
Why this name?
It was all Shout's idea. Before this we had a group called TWR (Turntable Wizards Reunion) in 1985. When they all broke apart and we were both left, we started listening to deep Chicago House music, which gave us an idea to combine Hip Hop and House music in our tracks, of course we weren't the first to invent it, but other influences came about like Todd 'the God' Terry and Fast Eddie. Shout came up with the band name as well as the FHP logo (he was a graffiti artist), and the name stuck since!
Do you play live?
We used to do jams and clubs around the Tri State area. Nowadays there's just too much younger competition out there so since the internet was born we now enjoy creating mp3 tracks of our own and bringing them out to a worldwide audience.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
You can reach out not just to the local areas, but all around the world, I personally like to chat with other creative minds from different countries. I think they do a whole lot better that the Americans do, the rest of the free world just has a knack for enhancing dance music of all genres, especially the UK, Germany and Japan. You might be surprised!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would if the opportunity arose. Never was easy to do, it's not what you know but who you know, you know?
Your influences?
We never discriminated any music genre, I myself like what's out there, old or new. When it comes to funky breaks though, we worship Todd Terry!
Favorite spot?
San Francisco and New York City!
Equipment used:
We use PCDJ Producer and Reason for the mp3s, Technics 1200s and Yamaha mixers as turntablists.
Anything else...?
