1996-1997. The best band I have ever been apart of. Joe Libordi, Steve Lussie, Brian Bennett and myself, Brett Gregory.
Why this name?
Well actually we called ourselves Broken String at first then CrossRoads and then with the crazy way we broke up I decided to call this page by a joke name I once suggested.
Do you play live?
The Rusty Porthole, Virtues of Coffee, Tokay Bowl, and I wish we were still playing.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes
Band History:
I met Brian Bennett back in 1996. Together we started a cool little acoustic duo called Broken String. Before long we were wanting to expand and added Steve Lussie on Electric Guitar and Joe Libordi on Drums. And so we called the new band CrossRoads. We played mainly Beatles, Rockabilly, Country and Acoustic Rock kinda stuff. In less than a year we were trying to kill each other. Joe and I got in a big fight and the band broke up. Then Steve, Brian and I formed our own little acoustic trio instead of an electric band and we called it Bennett-Gregory-Lussie. After a while, Steve and I realized we really wanted to have a big band again but play some different material than what CrossRoads had been doing. We really wanted to play some uptempo electric blues and rockabilly and ditch the acoustic stuff for awhile. Brian wanted no part of such a band. So we parted ways with Brian Bennett and brought in Brian Covey to be our drummer for our new project. Together, Steve, Brian Covey and I again called our selves CrossRoads, and we went out and had a blast playing some really cool blues. After awhile, that too came to an end as each of us were moving on to different projects and different bands. Brian Bennett moved to Nashville, Joe Libordi moved to Red Bluff (we are friends again thankfully), Steve officially retired from music and is driving a truck, and Brian Covey moved out to Nevada for awhile then came back and started his own rockabilly band called The Pendletons. I was continuously writing more songs but nagging at me was the fact that Brian Bennett and I had written 2 complete songs and 3 unfinished songs and we had never really properly recorded anything. I knew I wanted to close that chapter. I tried to get Brian to help me finish the songs and record them but after many attempts by me, I finally figured out that he wanted no part of it. So I finished the songs on my own, and recorded them alone as well, based on demo versions of us practicing the songs. There are so many things I would change if I could go back in time and breaking up this band is one of them. Being in a band is a compromise, not a dictatorship. Live and Learn.
