My name is Jeremy Christopher Lewis. I was born and raised in Metro Detroit. I am a sophomore at Bowling Green State University, and I am studying Philosophy and Literature. I am in love with music; however I do not listen to rap. I strongly believe that rap is destroying the African American community. Rap or should I say urban music is providing our young brothers and sisters with instructions on how not to succeed in the real world. We value money, drugs, fancy cars, expensive clothes and jewelry when yet we are not entertainers, we do not have million of dollars, therefore we can not afford to not save our money. But I am not here to criticize my people; instead, I am here to help, to teach, and to prepare us for the future. For I am Jay Lew, the "Lyrical Prodigy"
Why this name?
I took it from my name and added the 'Lyrical'
Do you play live?
Yes, I perform at local poetry clubs, open mic's and talent shows here and there
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Not only do the internet change the music industry, it changes the entertainment industry as well, along with several major industries in the world. For example, without the internet there is no ipods, no mix cds, no mp3 players. The internet is what the music industry banks on. It needs it to survive.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes I would. I believe a record contract would allow me to gain more fans, and the more fans I have, the more ears there is that are open awaiting to hear the truth. Subsequently I know that I can't save the whole world, but I can try, and wouldn't mind dying trying. Atleast I was at and for peace as well as believe in the Lord.
Your influences?
Common, Kanye West, Mos Def, The Roots, Erika Badu,
Favorite spot?
I love the city, I love the D, the 313, but I also love the country. You can't see the stars in the city, but out in the country they're so beautiful. And it's so peaceful.
Anything else...?
Just listen to my lyrics. I'm either spitting knowledge or telling you a story with a positive message attached to it.
