Hello, my name is Jon, a freelance composer for just about anything media. I prefer doing website and video game music, but I am definitely open to any type of film, CD, backup, instrumentation, whatever that may be out there. Besides music, I also mix recordings and master CDs.
Why this name?
Just my name. I like it. Welsh....from Wales.
Do you play live?
Not at the moment.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Who cares. If you make it, you make it. There are 5 million bands on MySpace and I haven't seen a huge increase in signings...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure. Unless you have to be something stupid, like a Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, or something stupid
Band History:
I started out learning to play piano around age 7 or so, but I didn't like it (at the time). I wanted to play outside and whatever, shoot guns, you know GUY stuff. When I got into middle school, I picked up playing trumpet after hearing Aaron Copeland's "Fanfare for the Common Man", I learned that I was playing the wrong instrument; what I wanted to play was the French Horn, so I switched and never looked back. I played through College (I graduated from VMI in 2005), and unfortunately had to stop playing after that, since I didn't own a french horn. I picked up guitar in high school and drums a few years later and piano again only recently. I have enjoyed composing, however, I am unable to do it full time. My dream would be to compose music for video games.
Your influences?
I would say closest to James Horner, then Thomas Newman, followed by Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt. I still love Danny Elfman, James Newton Howard, Howard Shore, John Williams, and the like, but just don't emulate them that much. I love hard rock, from Tool to Metallica, Enya, Classical, Jazz (Marsalis, Armstrong, etc.), R&B, instrumental ambient, and ethnic. I write in all genres.
Favorite spot?
Denver, Colorado
