After entering and winning several rap contests in the LA/OC area he succeeded in opening up for such notable rap acts as the LA Dream Team, the World Class Wrecking Crew, and Uncle Jamms Army. He then went on to release several singles and an underground album. After leaving the scene to raise his newborn son he returned in 1999 and since then has been an unstoppable force, releasing his 5th album, a european tour, and appearances in videos with Christina Aguilera, Latin Godfather(the movie)and a number of made for tv movies on Showtime, HBO, and Cinemax. Why this name?
Everyone growing up in Santana is considered a Suspect. So the name simply fits.
Do you play live?
I always play live. I've been touring since 1987. As for special moments, I'd have to say being able to go overseas to Europe and play for fans over there. That was a highlight of my career. How many raza actually go to Western Europe and perform.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet, particularly Myspace completely redefined the music industry. It made big time artist more accessible to their fan base and other underground artist and helped pave the way for collaborations between major and independant underground artists.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the deal was legitimate, why wouldn't I. But with the internet and digital downloads taking the industry over, that might not be a necessity.
Your influences?
Ice T, Rakim, Kool Moe Dee, Arabian Prince, Newcleus, Rich Cason, Curtis Mayfield, Ramsay Lewis, Boosty Collins, and believe it or not, John Fogarty.
