Hello! We're bLuE daHLia. We enjoy bringing languages and multi-ethnic styles together. The result is some kind of atmosphericartrockpoetry shindig. It's easier if you just check it out. We enjoy collaboration with film, dance, and other arts. We hope you'll visit www.bluedahlia.com and our brand new release This Floating World
Why this name?
It's a long story involving another band called The New York Room, the film with Veronica Lake, and perhaps most importantly the fact that the blue gene for dahlias was lost, making a Blue Dahlia an anomaly.
Do you play live?
We do play live! We live in Kalamazoo and roam around these parts fairly often. We are putting plans in action to leave these parts to visit yours.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well, there's stuff like this for people like us. We like the freedom to be ourselves.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We would have to read it first. ;) What we're really interested in is marketing and distribution.
Band History:
Bits of the gang got together in 1995, so we've been at it for 10 years. Mates have come and gone, but the core has remained cool. We have a number of CDs we're proud of (The General, This Floating World)and a growing repertoire of live modern scores for silent film (Buster Keaton, Clara Bow)and modern dance, plus some commercial credits. At the moment, it's the future we're excited about...
Your influences?
juana molina, cocteau twins, trilok gurtu, lhasa, tom waits, laurie anderson, jaco pastorius, U2, the church, dead can dance, and and and
Favorite spot?
middle of a lake
Equipment used:
far too much. there's a lot of percussion. and a lot of cable. and microphones. and guitars. and sound effects. and we still have to carry it ourselves.
