Ugly American is straight forward garage rock. We grew up in the '80's, and went to college in the early '90's. Both eras had tremendous music--along with weak ripoffs.
We probably have more of a raw sound like the early '90's just because that takes less talent and money to achieve.

Why this name?
Joe and Dave G. went to visit a friend in the army stationed in Germany. The trio travelled through Europe being loud, drunk, and uncultured--amuzing themselves by requesting "99 Luftballooons" in every bar in Germany. After the trip, the new name was an obvious choice.

Anywhere we are invited.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet (and technology in general) has allowed people to make quality recordings and distribute them for very little money. Hopefully in the long run it will provide an alternative to the same crappy formula that the record companies keep reproducing (and wondering why record sales are falling). It also allows people with no talent whatsoever to record horrible music. The problem is sifting through 10,000 bands to find a good one.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Does a bear sh*** in the woods?
Band History:
Ugly American was founded in 1993 at Lehigh University by roommates Joe Colucci (guitar/bass/vocals) and Dave Gemzik (drums). Dave Chan (guitar) was added the following year when Joe and Dave moved down the street for senior year.
Originally named "The Boozehounds" after a line in a Simpsons episode, the band was renamed after Gemzik complained that he did not like band names that contain "The."
