LKP started to write song when he was about 14 years old, and has gone thru working with local bands such as Stouffa and Bric, playing their own material and also doing covers as far aprt as Bill Withers to Red Hot Chilli Peppers, thru to Blackstreet and Jimi Hendrix. He then moved away to uni and Bric disbanded, but fortunately, due to one day in Reflex Records in Sheffield, he met DJ Rugged and was introduced to T-Mak and a host of Sheffield MCs and artists. They went on to form The InFamUs, and were on Channel 4's Chancers series with Fatman Scoop, and also had radio play on Radio 1, 1Xtra and all across Britains commercial national and London pirate stations. Their most successful song was Be My Girl, written and produced by Louis Munroe, and vocalled by LKP (then going under the name of Kriss P) and Parly B, a dancehall mc of the highest grade. After 3 years, LKP decided to go his own way and left the group. He is now recording plenty of new material with other local artists, and has appeared on national radio again on a number of occasions.
Why this name?
LKP is my DJing name, DJ Lil Kriss P.
Do you play live?
I play live whenever I can, but there are not so many oppurtunities in Newcastle, so Im looking to move out of here in the next couple of years. I do DJ around the city though, playin RnB, hip hop, soul, and funk. In the past I have sung at a few venues in London, and also at the biggest club in the UK, Tall Trees in Yarm.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It makes the time between artist and potential fan a lot smaller, but because there are now evn more artists, it makes it very hard to weed out the wheat from the chaff.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, if the deal was right. I havent got a multi million pound advertising budget!
